Yes and No. Women do dress to look attractive and draw the attention of their admirers be it men or women. Women do vie for men’s attention no doubt and would like a compliment or two from them, but at the same time it is not the end in itself. They dress up for personal satisfaction, to feel good and be a part of the fashion world. At times, they compete with other women, and try to look their best and go in for the best fashions in the market. To be on the top of the world is what they aim for and select clothes which bring out the best in them.
Men do admire women who look good. It is but natural for the opposite sex to take interest in a woman, and how she dresses up also matters to her. The creative talents are at their best in a woman when she selects clothes that accentuate her overall personality.
Women dress up according to the demands of the society, not for just pleasing men. In the work place, they have to go in for a formal look. They need to look very professional. Party time they can look as attractive as ever, perhaps even to attract men. The choice is theirs. Dress sense is cultivated over a period of time. Dress appropriately and receive compliments is what she believe in. Some do dress up to attract men of course. They go in for the ’sexy’ look. Whatever said and done it is the woman who decides how to dress, whether to please a man or not to please. She has to look her best in every situation, whether at home or office.
How does she dress ? What is her dress sense?
- A woman is often accused of being vain, that she dresses up for other’s sake to receive compliments. On the other hand, many women dress up to satisfy their inner ego or self-esteem and look their best because they feel like doing so. Compliments may come along the way, but that is not the only reason they are dressing up for. They may feel flattered if a man pays a compliment or looks at them, but they would react the same way if a woman did so.
- A woman dresses up appropriately. If she were at her work place, then she would wear clothes that would give her a professional look. She would not wear clothes to attract a man only. In fact she has to dress very soberly and underplay her sexuality. This may not be so in case she was at a party or at home. At a party she would dress up to draw another person’s attention and look sexy and attractive to draw the attention of the opposite sex as well. A plunging neckline or a slit in the dress would make her look as gorgeous as ever.
- At home of course she dresses up to please her husband. She may try out some expensive lingerie and wear dresses that her husband would be proud of. Here, no doubt, she does dress up to please a man- her husband. Nevertheless, she does have her say in the matter as well and will wear something that suits her. She gives importance to her taste as well.
- A woman brings out her inner talents by selecting dresses that suit her age, figure and personality. Just vying for man’s attention cannot be her ultimate goal. Social pressures are also there which compel her to dress up in particular manner. For example, U.S. presidential candidate, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, or for that matter even the former U.S. president’s wives were expected to conform to particular dress form when they appeared in public. The same applied to women in similar positions in other countries as well. They do not dress up only to attract men, but to maintain certain decorum in society.
Women like attention and that too male attention, but at the same time they do have a mind of their own when it comes to dressing up. They also have to meet up to social obligations. Only to look ’sexy’ cannot be their motive when they dress up. They have to cater to the requirements of all people in society. They have to choose their dress according to the occasion.
