Preventing Hot Water Burns

Hot water isn’t just painful to deal with but it is fatal. Children are more vulnerable to hot water burns, provided they are careless and free to understand accidents and events that lead to it. In addition, there skin is more soft, delicate and hence, more susceptible to things such as hot water burns.

How to prevent hot water burns?
To avoid or prevent hot water burns follow the procedure below:

  • Hot water heater should have a set temperature of not more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit (saves energy and utility costs too)
  • Always assist children when they bathe
  • Avoid putting little ones in a tub which is still filling
  • Fill the bathing tub first to the right temperature
  • Always check the water temperature with your wrist before bathing your kids
  • Stir the water to avoid variances in temperature in the water before putting your kids in a bath tub
  • Stove boiling water should always be done on a back burner
  • The handle of a boiling water should always be turned around so that curious kids cannot reach it
  • Microwave heating of water should also be done and removed by adults and not children

Anything risky as those involving fire, kitchen and electric appliances should be kept in safe reach from children. To avoid hot water burns especially in kids, keep them away when water is heated or boiled for use.
